Sinaunang Perth : Studying in Perth

Perth adalah Ibukota Negara Bagian Western Australia. Hampir dari kami semua tidak pernah membayangkan akan ke Perth dan kami di sini sampai tanggal 27 September 2008. Awalnya berat meninggalkan kebiasaan kami di Surabaya terutama pada saat Ramadhan. Tetapi setelah menjalani kehidupan di Perth, kami dapat mempelajari kebiasaan dan kebudayaan baru, bertemu dengan orang-orang baru, dan dekat dengan orang-orang di sini. Itu semua merupakan hadiah yang sangat berharga seumur hidup.

Now, I know the behavior of my family in Perth, new culture, and how we can get along with the culture and the people. Host parents saya  mengajak Mbak Cynthia dan saya ke Wireless Hill Park(kalau di Surabaya semacam Kebun Bibit), Armadale Reptiles Park and AQWA (Aquarium of Western Australia). Kata host parents kami, mereka masih akan mengajakku dan Mbak Cynthia ke Kings Park, Shopping Centre(untuk membeli souvenir), dan ke Fremantle.

Day by day I just realize that our time in Perth a week again.  So, I don’t want to miss it. Maybe once experience.

Kalau disini kebiasaan seteleh makan malam cerita tentang kegiatan yang dilakukan hari ini dan terkadang tanya-jawab juga. Saya memakai jilbab, kebanyakan dari mereka heran dan bertanya mengapa saya harus memakai itu. Kalau sekarang dingin, tidak apa-apa. Tapi kalau summer gimana. Aku hanya menjawab semampuku dan aku nggak berani jelasin lebih jauh karena aku sendiri juga nggak yakin. Mungkin kejadian ini bisa menjadi cerminan agar aku lebih memperdalam agamaku.

Sejauh ini aku sangat menikmati kehidupan di Perth. Kegiatan-kegiatan yang menarik itu seperti menampilkan performance seperti tari Remo, Tari Labasamya, tari Margapati dan mendapat perhatian yang menakjubkan dari orang-orang di sini, yang kenyataannya di Indonesia mungkin sudah ketinggalan jaman. Terus masuk ke kelas-kelas di Melville S.H.S. Bisa membandingkan pelajaran di sini dengan di Surabaya. Aku baru tahu ada scientific calculator yang beda banget dengan di Indonesia. Sebenarnya nggak hanya scientific, tapi graphic calculator. Modelnya kalau tidak salah Casio fx 9800-an. Semua murid year 11 punya itu semua. Ketika kami tanya dimana beli itu, eh katanya itu sudah out of date. Yang up to date itu pakai layar sentuh. Menarik kan?

Pokoknya di sini banyak hal yang aku temukan dan pelajari. Dan aku siap untuk Lebaran!!!

Ini penampilan kami di Palmyra primary school. Cukup sukses, walaupun ada sedikit kesalahan teknis, tapi for first performance it’s awesome.

Kami mendapat sambutan yang sangat baik dari siswa-siswanya. Kami juga mendapat souvenir bertuliskan terima kasih banyak dari mereka..

1. Suka Fish n Chips

2. Bibir kering, jadi pake lipbalm terus.

3. Sering bingung rute kalau naik bus

4. Untung punya Smart Rider (We love cheaper transportation)

5. Naek bus gratis kalau mesin penghitungnya rusak (Nice…)

6. Suka foto-foto (we don’t want miss every moment)

7. Bangga pake jumper “Melville”

Absolutely YESS!

I’ve been here, in Perth for five days. There are many new things that I’ve learned.

I had never dreamt of coming here before this.

I’m studying in Melville Senior High School. Nadia and I always go to school on foot everyday because my “home” is not too far from Melville Senior High School.

For first week, my friends and i have studied at the library.

We had orientation at MSHS with Mrs. Bina, ESL lesson ( english as a second language ) with Mrs. Marian and weblogs with Ms. Penny.

Mrs. Bina and Mrs.Marian also accompanied us when we practiced our performance.

Ms. Penny has taught us how to make weblog, including how to post an article, add photos and video, manage pages and design etc.

They are not only kind and helpful but also friendly.                                                                         They make me comfortable studying here. I love them.

My friends and i watched Bouncers Musical Production on Wednesday, 10 September 2008. It was so good, we enjoyed it. It’s really different from the Musical Production in Indonesia. But both of them have their own uniqueness.

We visited Fremantle Prison yesterday. We went there by bus  with Mrs. Bina, Mrs. Rada, Mrs. Marian, Ms. Kate and 25 Year 8 Indonesian students. It was my first time for me to visit a prison.

Today, we’ll perform our performance at Palmyra Primary School. There’ll be Remo, Margapati, Labas Samya dance, some songs from Surabaya. I hope we can do it as well as we can. We’ve practiced for it for 3 days.

We’ll integrate lessons with mainstream upper school classes for the last two weeks. I hope we can study and enjoy out time more while we’re here.

I love my first week at school. It was very exciting, great and fantastic.

We are the delegation from Surabaya and we have just arrived in Perth to do our mission.  Our mission is to introduce Surabaya’s culture to people in Perth. On the Monday we arrived, we went straight to the Bilabong Lodge and waited for our homestay parents to pick us up. While we had spare time , we went to Fremantle to buy some souvenirs. After that , we returned to Billabong Lodge and picked by our homestay parents.

Dan pada hari Senin, kami pergi ke sekolah kami, yaitu Mellville Senior High School. Hari pertama kami di sekolah, kami diajak untuk membuat blog oleh guru Bahasa Indonesia kami. Setelah itu, kami diajak berkeliling di sekitar Melville. Lalu, kami belajar Bahasa Inggris dan membuat jurnal pribadi. Pada hari kedua kami mulai latihan untuk pertunjukan kami di Palmyra Primary School. Dan hari selanjutnya , kami pergi ke Fremantle Prison. Dan pada hari Jumat nanti kami akan mengadakn pertunjukan di Palmyra Primary School.

This Month, September, all of Moslems in the world are fasting. The first day of Ramadhan begins on 1 September 2008 and finishes on 30 September 2008. At the end of Ramadhan, we celebrate  the great day, called Idul Fitri (lebaran in Indonesian). Fasting means not eating or drinking from fajr (before sunrise) until sunset. All Moslems are obigated to pray five times a day.

There are 10 Moslems in our group (delegation of Surabaya-Perth) . We will spend our 21 days here studying and visiting some places of interest. Of course, we don’t forget to fast. Fasting here is different with fasting in Surabaya, Indonesia. Mainly because the weather is different. The weather is spring now in Perth, but in Surabaya the weather is the dry-season. So it is easier to fast here, because the weather is suportive.

Jika di Surabaya hampir 90% penduduknya berpuasa, kebalikannya terjadi di Perth. Hanya 10% dari penduduknya berpuasa. Sehingga jangan heran kalau melihat ada yang makan di siang hari, karena mereka  tidak berpuasa. Mungkin hal ini menjadi suatu hal-hal yang menantang. Tetapi untungnya, orang-orang di sini mendukung kami untuk terus berpuasa. Mereka menghargai kami, dengan membangunkan kami untuk makan sahur, dan menyesuaikan jadwal makan malam mereka dengan waktu kami berbuka puasa.

when we had excur, we were on the bus together. then, one of my friend said that we looked as if we wanna go back to surabaya, so all of my friend laughed her. she was homesick. so were i. this day we excur to fremantle prison. it was so scary, dark, and shiva (indonesia:merinding). this place is very width.

sewaktu bapaknya nerangin tentang penjaranya, aku nggak begitu ngerti. tp untunglaha ada si kamus berjalan ‘nadhyong’ bisa jadi penerjemah sedikit sedikit. disitu gede banget tempatnya. ada tempat untuk hukman mati juga. katanya sih, sehari sebelum dia di gantung, dia dibolehin ketemu sama pendeta, dibacain kitab sucinya, trus dikasih brendy.

after we had excur to fremantle prison, we went to morman beach to take a picture. it was rainy day, so we could spend much time there. then, we were going to have lunch at McD. some of my friends were fasting, so they didn’t have their lunch. accidentally, i wasn’t fasting this day. i was ‘in time’.

setelah makan siang, kita kembali ke bus. aku terkejut karena temanku ada yg membawa bungkusan besar fish n’ chips. sesampainya di sekolah, kami langsung melahap habis fish n’ chips seharga 12 dollar itu. sungguh sungguh mengenyangkan.

after ate fish n’ chips, we went to library to attend next lesson. at 1.30 we had our lunch time. some of us who weren’t fasting, had their lunch for second. oh my godness, our stomache was so full. then we practised our perform in order to get our best for tomorrow.
